Philly Runners Will Meet Up Tomorrow for Solidarity Run to Support Boston
Philadelphia Runner is organizing a massive group run on Thursday evening to support show for Boston following the bombings earlier this week. From its website:
We have seen a huge outpouring from the community in Philadelphia. Tons of people are asking “what can we do?” After speaking to several groups in the area and other stores, it sounds like the best thing we can do is: Go for a run.
Amen, I say. Local running groups, running stores and individual runners are joining up for a massive group run from City Hall, heading down Market Street to the Liberty Bell. Participating running groups (check out the list below) will meet at designated spots to kick off their runs at 7 p.m. (Bryn Mawr Running Company Manayunk will meet at 6:30.) At 7:25, everyone will descend upon the courtyard at City Hall for the final leg of the run.
The run is free, and there will be no fundraising efforts. It’s just to show solidarity, from our city to theirs—period.
Here are the running groups that are signed on so far, and where their runs will originate from at 7 p.m. I’ll update this list as more groups join the event.

April 15, 2013 is a day I will never forget. I spent the morning and early part of the afternoon keeping track of fellow BMRC friends as they took the magical journey from Hopkinton to Boston for the 117th running of the Boston marathon.
The day took a turn quite rapidly as I spent the later part of the afternoon tracking down our runners to ensure all were safe. Thankfully, we were lucky. All BMRC members, store folks and running colleagues are safe. Thank you to all those who reached out to check on our fellow runners.
We extend thoughts and prayers to Boston and the running community.
As a former Bostonian, marathon finisher and all around running lover, I am saddened by what unfolded today.
At this time, I ask that we join together and not let today’s events hinder us from doing what we love. Find strength in this tragedy.
Be safe, stay strong and keep doing what you love….run.
